Double tapping on the chat screen is a quick & easy way to get to your chat list. Makes for fast chat switching.

Single tapping on the chat screen will raise & lower the keyboard. But you already knew that.

As you probably already know, Apple does not allow applications to run in the background. What this means is once you leave BeejiveIM (to answer the phone, check email, play Super Monkey Ball) BeejiveIM is essentially turned off.

Luckily we can leave you logged into our servers for a period of time (of your choosing) so messages can still get to you when you open BeejiveIM back up. But how do you get notified of a new IM if BeejiveIM is closed?

Easy, we can send you an email. Your iPhone already notifies you when you get one of those. Here's how to set it up:

• On your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen, tap the Settings icon.
• Scroll down and tap on BeejiveIM.
  
• Scroll down to the Network and Push section.
  
• Switch Push Email Alert to "ON"
• Enter the email address where you want the alerts to be sent.
• Optionally select whether or not to receive notices when your accounts are logged off.
• Select the amount of time you'd like to remain logged in after BeejiveIM is closed by modifying the Session Timeout field.

This works best if you use an email address that gets sent to the Mail application on your iPhone or iPod Touch. This works great if you use a MobileMe, Yahoo, or MS Exchange email address that gets pushed to the Mail application on your iPhone or iPod Touch.

And, if you carrier supports email to SMS conversion, you can have your email alert SMSed to you by using a carrier specific email address (like 5555551234@txt.att.net - for example). Please check your carrier for more information on how to have an email SMSed to your phone.
Please note: changes will not take effect until the next time you open BeejiveIM.

To set the amount of time we keep you logged in after BeejiveIM is closed, do the following:

• On your iPhone or iPod Touch home screen, tap the Settings icon.
• Scroll down and tap on BeejiveIM.
  
• Scroll down to the Network and Push section.
  
• Change the Session Timeout field to the amount of time you'd like to remain logged in after BeejiveIM is closed.

You can stay logged in on our servers from 10 minutes up to 24 hours of idle time, or you can choose to be logged out each time BeejiveIM closes.

You can use your AIM and Yahoo IM accounts to send SMS (text) messages to your friends. Here's how:

• Tap on the Chats icon in the bottom toolbar.
  
• Tap on the + button in the top toolbar.
  
• Tap on the SMS button. Please note, you will need to be logged into an AIM or Yahoo account to see the SMS button.
  
• Enter your buddy's mobile phone number or select it from your contact list by tapping the +. Be sure the number starts with the country code. AIM accounts can only SMS to US numbers, Yahoo accounts can SMS to some international numbers. See http://messenger.yahoo.com/features/sms
  
• Select an account to send the SMS from. Only AIM & Yahoo accounts can send SMS messages.
  
• Tap Go

You will be brought to the buddy chat screen. Treat this like any other IM chat!


If you'd like to save the SMS as a buddy:

• Tap the buddy icon picture in the upper right corner of the chat screen.
  
• Scroll down and tap Add To Buddy List.
  

To quickly switch between chats you can...

• Shake the phone if you have Shake To Switch Chats setting enabled
• Double tap the chat screen to go back to the chat list.
• Follow the instructions below:
  • On the chat screen, tap the center of the top bar.
    
  • A bar with your current chats will slide down...
    
    Tap to select a chat or hold your finger down to show basic buddy information.

BeejiveIM supports changing your buddy icon on AIM/MobileMe, ICQ, MSN/Windows Live, and Jabber accounts.

• Go to the Editing an IM Account screen.
• Log in to the account you'd like to update.
• Tap the buddy icon in the upper left corner.
  
• Choose an existing photo, browser your photos, or take a new picture.
  

Follow the on screen instructions and your new buddy icon will be updated in no time.

You can have your chat conversations emailed to you. Here's how:

• On the chat screen, tap the center of the top bar.
  
• A bar with your current chats will slide down...
  
  Tap the envelope icon in the upper left corner.
• Enter your email address and tap Send
