Beejive IM - Group Chats

Postby satheeshka » Thu Jun 26, 2008 2:44 pm

All, we are happy to announce a beta build of Beejive IM on BlackBerry that has much awaited Group Chat support.

Following are the new features with this release (currently numbered as 1.0.6)

1) Group Chat Support for AIM,YHOO and JABBER. MSN to follow

2) Lotus Sametime support

3) Ability to see the buddy icons on the chat area with a preference to set this on/off

Since this is a beta build, the client needs to be configured to connect to our development/beta servers. Open up the application, go to menu->preferences and at the very bottom under advanced connection parameters, type the following as it appears below
url=http://appsrv4.beejive.com
If you already have parameters, delimit the parameters by a "|" (pipe). for example if you have direct=socket under connection parameters, after adding the url parameter, the advanced connection parameters should look like this
direct=socket|url=http://appsrv4.beejive.com. If you have DEFAULT, you can remove it and just type url=http://appsrv4.beejive.com

Is there somewhere I can download the beta as a .alx and .cod so that I can load it using the Desktop manager? Thanks.

So how do I join an existing Jabber group conference? I would like to join jabber@conference.jabber.org and jdev@conference.jabber.org, but it isn't clear to me how to do this.

Thanks!

Jabber works a little differently than other protocols. If some one in that conference invites you to join, you would get an invitation through Beejive IM and you can accept it and join the conference. But you are right, we currently do not have an option to join a jabber conference proactively through Beejive IM.

Gotcha. Now at least I know it's not me being dense.

Hopefully support for directly joining jabber chat rooms is planned? From the Jabber perspective it's kind of useless to rely on someone inviting you.

An update of the beta version of our upcoming release is available. It now supports group chats for MSN and is labeled 1.0.7. The production release would be 1.1. Those who are running 1.0.6 currently would have an issue getting the windows live im working as the client and server are a little incompatible. Please upgrade your version to 1.0.7. The rest of the im services (YHOO,JABBER,etc..) should work as they used to. Sorry for this inconvenience!

There seems to be some inconsistencies in the application name (i.e., JiveTalk vs BeejiveIM) from v1.0.5 (JiveTalk) to v1.0.6 beta (BeejiveIM) to v1.0.7 beta (JiveTalk) that is causing conflicts with a shortcuts application that I use. Please consider making the name change permanent through the beta releases. ;)

1. once you make the chat, you cannot invite people. you will have to end the current chat, and create a new one to invite more people.
2. if you use the default bubbles theme , once in a chat it does not differenciate the people talking, it will only show up Green for everyone talking .
---if you use the other theme themes, including the new bubble with buddy icon, you would be able to asertain who is talking.
3. unable to send chat invites to those that have yahoo on their sidekicks.
4.i wish the chat name that you create persists when the chat room is made instead of creating a generic "beejive10293878473672636"
5.yahoo chat not working too well.
when a room is created, it it comes up as "null" then the room dissappears.

i still have to play around with it for more quirks as it is still in beta.
good job though
