HTTP vs SOCKET

Postby ajayahmed » Sat Jan 30, 2010 11:04 am

I'm trying to find out which is the optimum connection method. Can everyone say which method has been more stable for them (http or socket), including the following:

-phone model and OS version
-what services do you connect to - i.e. facebook, windows live messenger etc
-do you still receive messages/stay connected while the phone is in standby mode/locked
-what have you experienced after using beejive after more then half an hour of being idle
--i.e. does it still stay connected, can you receive messages etc

I believe after collating all your answers, we can find the best connection method to prevent any problems while using Beejive.

For dummies: HTTP is like being in your house and after a short amount of time has passed (~1 minute), going to your door to check if there's new data outside while SOCKET is like leaving the door open. I hope this makes sennse lol

Hey bud -- I wish more people had responded to this! :-)

I have a blackberry curve 8900 with AT&T... All I can tell you is, before 5.0 my default settings (auto detect) worked like a charm. I never even paid attention to what my default settings were... So I can't tell you what they were...

But when 5.0 come out, I believe something changed in my auto settings... here is what it was changed to:

Transport = BIS
Connection = Socket
Advanced Parameters = Default

After 5.0 (with the above settings)... I could log in and it showed my friend just like normal... however, my friends could not see me online (atleast not in facebook)... I'd send them a message, it would go through to them.. they'd respond.. I'd drop offline and never get it.

I recently changed my settings to:
Transport = TCP
Connection = Socket
Advanced Parameters = Default

So far so good. I will keep you up to date.
