JiveTalk for BlackBerry: File Transfers
If you have a
4.2 OS BlackBerry device and have installed a MicroSD card, you can take advantage of JiveTalk's
file transfer capabilities to exchange files with your buddies. Currently file transfers are supported for AIM, ICQ, and
MSN. (NOTE: In order for any file transfer to take place, the buddy on the other end must be using a IM client that supports
the appropriate file transfer protocol for the IM service).
Sending a File:
To send a file to a buddy, first initiate a conversation with the buddy to make sure that the buddy is availble to receive the
file. In order for a file transfer to take place, the buddy must accept your file transfer request. Follow these steps to send a
file:
- From a chat or from the buddy list with the buddy selected, select "Send File" from the menu.
- A file browser will popup. Using the file browser, select the file to transfer.
- At this point the transfer request is sent to the buddy, and you'll be shown a progress dialog with a "Connecting..." message.
- If the buddy accepts the file transfer request, the transfer process will start and the progress bar will be updated as the file is being transferred.
- When the entire file has been sent and received by the buddy, the progress dialog will indicate that the transfer is done.
Receiving a File:
When a buddy tries to send you a file, you'll see a popup dialog indicating the request, including information on the requesting buddy,
the name and size of the file. By default, JiveTalk detects the file type and tries to default the save location to the appropriate media
directory on your BlackBerry. If the media type is unknown, the default /Media Card/JiveTalk directory will be used. In the popup dialog you
have the option of renaming the file and selecting a different directory to save the file.
Once you have accepted the transfer and selected a location to save the file, the transfer will start and a popup progress dialog
will indicate the transfer progress. When the entire file has been transferred and saved, the progress dialog will indicate that the transfer
is done.
After the transfer is complete, a message with an embeded hyperlink is added to the chat with the buddy. You can click on the hyperlink to
automatically open the file that was transferred, provided the file type is supported by your BlackBerry.
