JiveTalk for BlackBerry uses the native BlackBerry Alerts Profile capabilities to notify you of application events. There are 3 custom events registered under each profile for JiveTalk:

- Buddy Pounce. This event is triggered when a buddy you have buddy pounce set on comes online.

- New IM While Active. This event is triggered when a new instant message comes in when you are active inside JiveTalk. You're active when you have used the keyboard or the trackwheel/trackball with in the last x minutes as specified by the "Minutes Till Idle" setting in Preferences.

- New IM While Idle. This event is triggered when a new instant message comes in when JiveTalk is in the background, or you have been inactive in the application for x minutes as specified by the "Minutes Till Idle" setting in Preferences.

Customize Settings
To customize the alert settings for any of the above events, use the following steps:


1. Go to your BlackBerry Alerts Profile application. The Alert Profile application can be found on the homescreen of your BlackBerry. (You use it to set Vibrate/Normal/Silent, etc. for your phone)

2. Choose "Edit" to customize the alerts for JiveTalk events.

-On OS 4.2 devices, from inside the Alerts Profiles application, scroll to the bottom of the list and choose "Advanced...", highlight the active or desired profile and select "Edit" from the menu.

- On OS 4.1 or earlier devices, from inside the Alerts Profiles application, highlight the active or desired profile and select "Edit" from the menu.

On OS 4.1 or later BlackBerries, the JiveTalk Home Screen icon changes with your availability status, it also changes when a new instant message comes in. The glass ball changes color to match your status, and the chat bubble change colors to match the new message icon inside the application. You will also see a red star indicating the presence of a new message.

You can configure JiveTalk to alert you with a popup dialog when a new instant message comes in. When this is configured, if a message comes in when the application is in the background, a dialog will popup and prompt to to enter the chat or dismiss it until later.

To set the popup alert, from either the buddy list screen or any chat screen, select "Preferences" from the menu and check the "Popup Alert While In Background" box.
